The Devil Icon Only Appears When You Keep Hitting
Source: The Extended Look (Aug 27, 2026), with system details from press previews

A small devil icon with a minus sign shows up during a fight in the Extended Look — but not when the fight starts. It appears once Jason is kicking a man who is already down. The game is not flagging violence; it is flagging violence against someone who can no longer fight back, and that distinction is the clearest look yet at the system Rockstar calls a criminal profile.
Early in the Extended Look, Jason gets into a fight with a delivery driver. Nothing happens on screen while the fight is a fight. Then the driver goes down, Jason keeps kicking him, and a small devil icon with a minus sign appears at the side of the screen.
The timing is the whole thing. The game did not flag the brawl. It flagged what happened after the brawl was over, which means somebody wrote a rule that distinguishes fighting from continuing to hit a person who cannot get up.
The same indicator moves the other way elsewhere. Choosing to pet a dog rather than scold it registers, and the video shows both options available on the interaction prompt.
Rockstar's own name for what sits underneath appears to be a criminal profile, described in the preview round as a replacement for the Honor system in Red Dead Redemption 2 rather than a copy of it. The stated difference is that it does not sort your actions into good and evil. It builds a pattern out of how you behave, and that pattern changes how Leonida's residents and its police react to you, and can affect how parts of the story develop.
Two details from the previews make it read less like a morality meter than it first appears. Violence a mission requires does not count against you, and neither does violence during a robbery — the system is aimed at what you choose to do, not at what the game makes you do. And it registers things with no moral weight at all, including, reportedly, disposing of rubbish correctly.
It is worth being precise about what is new here, because the claim going around is that Grand Theft Auto has never had anything like it. Red Dead Redemption 2 had Honor, from the same studio, and it is the direct ancestor of this. What is new is a Grand Theft Auto carrying that kind of system at all, and an on-screen indicator specific enough to fire on the difference between a fight and a beating.
Until the Extended Look, this was one of the least certain things about GTA 6: the leaked footage suggested a morality system and coverage of it was careful to say 'possible'. It is now visible on screen in Rockstar's own video.
