Analytics, only if you accept them. Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity. GA4 counts visits and which pages get read. Clarity records how pages are used, which includes mouse movement, scrolling and clicks. Neither runs before you choose, and choosing Reject means they are never loaded at all.

Page views, with no cookie. Vercel Analytics counts which pages get opened. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device, so the banner does not gate it: there is nothing on your machine to ask permission for. It never sees your name or your email, and the legal basis is legitimate interest in knowing whether the site is being read at all.

Your email, only if you type it in. The newsletter form stores your address with Upstash, which hosts this site's database, and it moves to Beehiiv, the service that sends the emails, once the newsletter starts going out. Nothing else is attached to it, and every email has an unsubscribe link that works.

One cookie that is not optional. vcl_consent stores the choice you made here so you are not asked on every page. It lasts a year, holds nothing but that choice, and is not shared with anyone.

There are no ads on this site today. Some outbound links to Amazon are affiliate links, marked as such where they appear. Following one takes you to Amazon, whose own privacy policy applies from that point.

Analytics answer one question: which articles are worth writing more of. For GA4 and Clarity the legal basis is your consent, which is why neither loads until you give it and why withdrawing it takes one click.

The newsletter runs on your consent too, given by typing your address into the form.

The services named above — Vercel, Upstash, Beehiiv, Google and Microsoft — are based in the United States and operate under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which is the arrangement the European Commission recognises as giving your data an adequate level of protection there.

Nothing is sold, and nothing is handed to anyone who is not listed here.

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your data, correction of it, deletion of it, restriction of how it is used, a copy of it in a portable format, and you can object to it being processed at all.

Write to hola@vicecitylore.com. Requests are answered within a month. In practice the only personal data held is a newsletter address, and unsubscribing deletes it.

If you are not happy with the answer, you can complain to your data protection authority. In Spain that is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos.

Use the Cookies link in the footer of any page. It reopens the same choice you were given the first time, and switching to Reject stops analytics from loading on your next page view.
